| What do I have to do, once I get a job? |
Now that you have found a suitable position, there are some things that you need to do. It is a good idea to continue to lodge your applications for payment if you are receiving income support from Centrelink.
If you are unable to lodge your form in person, it can also be lodged by:
- Mailing it on the day it is due to be lodged, not beforehand;
- Faxing is through to your local Centrelink Customer Service Centre; or
-
Getting someone else to lodge it for you (you will need to give then written authority)
When you lodge your form you need to ensure that you declare the dates and times you worked, along with your gross wage. The consequences for failing to declare correctly include:
- Being overpaid;
-
Having to pay back some or all of the payment; and
- A breach penalty (reduction in payment rate) may also apply.
Centrelink matches information with the Australian Taxation Office and verifies income details with employers.
Working Credits
Working Credits enable Job Seekers to keep a greater percentage of their payment depending on their Working Credit balance. All Job Seekers who receive income support from Centrelink (not from work / investments) will automatically start to accumulate Working Credits.
