Health Care Card

The Health Care Card is issued on a twelve weekly basis for twelve months or more. Centrelink Customers who receive an allowance, payment or benefits or those who earn a low income can claim for a Health Care Card, and a separate claim is needed. If you get a job or your earnings increase, in some circumstances you can keep your Health Care Card for a further period.

You may be eligible for concessions in some instances if you have a Health Care Card. Some of the things you may be eligible for a reduction are:

  • Health care costs including ambulance, dental care and eye care;
  • Public transport costs;
  • Water rates; and
  • Energy / electricity bills.
