First Visit

Just left School? Made Redundant?
Want simple answers to those complex questions?
We Can Help!

This simple, informative site was designed to help make sense of all the confusion & frustration surrounding your forward progression when unemployed. We cover easy to understand information in order to prepare you for your journey to getting the job you want.

Where to First?

For many people, the first place to visit is Centrelink. Centrelink offers assistance with income support, job search services as well as specialised help if you need it. We will cover what is expected of you, and what you can expect in order to receive income support. We also document assistance (financial or otherwise) that you may have been unaware you were entitled to receive.

Job Network Members

Once you have registered with Centrelink, your next step is to sign up with a Job Network Member. There are five to choose from, so check out our information and then make your choice. If you don't choose one, you will be referred to one. They will help to connect you to employers offering positions that best suit your existing skills. Job Network Members facilitate Mutual Obligation activities and Intensive Assistance, for people unemployed for periods greater than six months. They may also be able to finance courses to expand your skills base in order to improve your chance of re-entering the workforce.

So You're Registered with a Job Network

Now's the time to start getting serious. Job Placement Organisations and Employment Agencies can further your chances of getting the job you want. We have included an A-Z list of the local agencies and where you can find them.

Local Area Lists

If you think you may need further training check out the A-Z listing of Registered Training Organisations in your local area; to help you gain the right skills for finding that new job.

Work for the Dole Projects

There is also a great range of Work for the Dole projects and Centrelink approved activities to choose from. Keep in mind that participating in these projects can earn you 'Training Credits'. These credits can be used to pay for accredited training, or anything else that will improve your employment prospects. Contact your local Community Work Coordinator for further information.

Congratulations!

You've found a job! Centrelink still requires you to fulfil your obligations by declaring your income correctly and lodging your application for payment form each fortnight until it is no longer required. Remember that because you have been accumulating 'Working Credits' during the unemployment period you will be entitled to a larger percentage of your Centrelink income. To check your 'Working Credits' balance visit www.centrelink.gov.au
